The Artist

Ashley A. Jones is an art educator and an urban realism artist from Duquesne, PA., whose work is rooted in understanding the complexities of identity, and the social dominance of inter-group discrimination among African-American women. Jones' work is in the collection of the National Afro-American Museum & Cultural Center in Wilberforce, Ohio, and has been highly exhibited across the USA, Canada, and Indonesia. Her works include drawings, paintings and wall installation art that serve as a means of both recognizing and creating new understandings and conversations about how our culture views and approaches Black women, their physical appearance and how society defines beauty and its standard.
