Shades of Us
Art. Identity. Color. Conversation.
Shades of Us is a collaborative art experience that invites participants to look closely at the colors within their own skin while exploring ideas connected to identity, representation, and colorism.
Using chalk pastel on brown kraft paper, participants create drawings of the back of their hand and arm, observing the variety of colors, undertones, highlights, and shadows that make up skin.
Individual drawings come together as a collaborative installation celebrating the range of shades and identities within a community.
The experience can include an artist talk, guided discussion, hands-on workshop, or a combination depending on the needs of the group.
